Composition of gritting salt
The composition of gritting salt from a chemical perspective is the same as edible salt: sodium chloride. It can be extracted from underground mines or the sea. Gritting salt varies, in terms of composition, in relation to purity and grain size.
Sometimes, anti-caking agents are also added to the gritting salt to prevent the substance from clumping. E535 is most commonly used for this purpose.
