Salt and additives: do they always go hand in hand?
The demand for products without additives is still noticeably increasing. Organic products are booming like never before and more and more companies in the food sector are applying themselves to an additive-free range. But can you produce on a large scale without using additives? Well yes, if you dare to choose the alternatives. It is possible, for example, to use salt without anti-caking agents, without compromising on your current scale advantages. Let's take a closer look.
Our sea salt is perfect for use in an industrial setting, without the need for an anti-caking agent.
Anti-caking agents E535 and E536
Anti-caking agents such as E535 and E536 are a standard ingredient of regular kitchen salt. They are used to prevent the product from clumping, and the possible consequences for quality and the production process.
In the quest for a more natural, additive-free production process, ZOUTMAN has invested heavily in technological innovation. As a result, it is now possible to deliver a top quality end-product without anti-caking agents.
Salt without additives: not just a dream
Anyone who is really committed to additive-free, must come to ZOUTMAN. Our sea salt is perfect for use in an industrial setting, without the need for an anti-caking agent. This is due to the aligned grain structure of the sea salt and the unique production process.
Thanks to ZOUTMAN's wide grain range, we can offer an assortment without additives, depending on the exact application. This means that you can make your product range additive-free and capitalise on the current market demand and trends. You can also switch to one, single type for all your salt needs; this is both simpler and more efficient.
What about iodine?
Iodine is also a commonly used additive. It is naturally present in negligible amounts in salt and must therefore be added separately. The underlying argument for this additive is completely different to anti-caking agents. Iodine is a mandatory additive in many countries for public health reasons. A lack of this substance is associated with health risks such as problems with the thyroid gland. Given the fact that salt is present in many products, these countries decided to provide iodine on a large scale, via salt.
In Belgium, the addition of iodine is optional. Iodine in salt is not damaging. The consumer always has the choice to buy salt with or without iodine. Any addition of iodine is always indicated on the packaging.
